Every lawn mowed, every ramp built and every act of service has led him here.
“I used to think ministry could only be working at a church, but I found that the Lord has given my family so many opportunities in the community that we serve and live in to do ministry,” said Home Repairs Ministries’ new Project Manager, Kyle Van Nus.
In 1995, Kyle and his family moved to Gwinnett County when his father decided to leave the construction business to become a police officer. His initial experience combining ministry and maintenance came in his teens.
“My first job was doing maintenance at a church,” he said. “I learned so much about how to care for people because part of my job was working in trailer parks and low-income areas.”
While his sister chose to follow her father into law enforcement as a Dacula Marshal, Kyle continued to work in maintenance. He began his own landscaping business and embraced the opportunity to serve widows, veterans and the elderly through the business. His family’s community outreach has only expanded from there.

Kyle is currently chaplain for the Gwinnett Stripers and for the Dacula High School football team as well serving his family as husband and father of four. From discipling middle schoolers to growing in Christ alongside other men, Kyle continually pours into those around him — but when he saw the job opening at Home Repairs, he didn’t immediately jump at the opportunity.
“I saw Heather’s post and immediately loved it, but I honestly thought, ‘There’s no way that’s for me.’ It took my wife Sarah saying a couple weeks later, ‘I think you would be the perfect fit for that,’” Kyle shared.
After his initial interview with Heather, Kyle told his wife, “This is what the Lord has for me.”
His role at Home Repairs gives Kyle even more opportunities to serve his neighbors.
“I get to be a part of a ministry that is not just meeting needs but also restoring hope in what humanity is,” he shared. “My prayer for 2025 has been, ‘Lord, give me eyes like Jesus. Give me ears like Jesus. Give me hands and feet like Jesus.’ I want to see who no one else sees. I want to hear who nobody else hears. I want to be a voice for the voiceless.”
As Project Manager, Kyle hopes he can build upon the good work church partners and volunteers have already been doing.
“I want to continue to strategically come alongside Heather in positioning church partnerships and raising and developing confidence leaders in our volunteer teams,” he said.
“God created us to be builders and makers and sustainers; my job is to multiply myself through discipleship.”
In only a few weeks with Home Repairs, Kyle has already been a blessing to local homeowners — but he’s also been blessed.
Recently, he visited a woman Home Repairs had served in the past. “She had a leak in her sink in her bathroom, and I went to look at it,” he said. “It was only a $20 repair that would take me an hour to fix.”
Even though the woman needed the repair, her selflessness struck Kyle. “She said, ‘Listen, that’s just a sink. I’ve got another one. If there’s somebody else that needs [the repair] more than me, then go to somebody else’s house.’ That just hit me,” he said.
“It shows that even in the midst of the hard and the desperation, the bulk of the people I have encountered with Home Repairs would rather give away what they need to help the next person. That makes you want to help them even more.”
Kyle is excited to serve even more families alongside Executive Director Heather and Administrative Assistant Ashley as they step out in obedience to the Lord to serve the vulnerable in the community.
“We get to be a part of a ministry that is literally the hands and feet of Jesus,” he said, “and we get to take things that are broken and make them new.”
