The repairs on Michelle’s home may have been small, but every word spoken and action done by the Home Repairs’ team left a lasting impact on her.
“They made me feel like I was family,” Michelle shared.
Michelle is a longtime Georgian and cancer survivor who served the Alpharetta community at a local hospital before retiring. After retirement, Michelle was struggling to cover the cost of living when she realized she was in desperate need of window repair.
“You couldn’t open the windows, and it was a mess. All my heat was going outside,” she explained. “I couldn’t afford to get new windows or have my windows fixed.
“My gas bills were astronomical.”
She contacted North Fulton Community Charities for help, and their team referred her to Home Repairs Ministries.
“Kyle [Home Repairs’ Project Manager] came out, and he fixed everything we discussed and asked me if there was anything else he could do for me. And actually there was!” she shared. “He put a filter in my furnace for me. I had the filter, but my furnace is up in the attic and I can’t climb.”
Kyle’s visit not only saved her money on upcoming bills but touched her heart.
“I felt so at ease, so blessed with him because he’s a man of God. It just made me feel so awesome that there’s a light at the end of the tunnel,” Michelle said.
During a crisis, Michelle recognizes it can be difficult to reach out for help, but she’s glad she did.
“You don’t want to ask for help, but there comes a time in your life when you have to,” she said.
“[Home Repairs’ team is] a blessing from God because they’re doing it from the heart, from their spirit.”
She hopes that other community members who want to get involved will also listen to God’s prompting to give back to the ministry who gave of their resources to help her.
“I would ask them to give what they can from their heart to help Home Repairs,” Michelle said. “Everybody needs somebody sometime in their life, and you never know who’s going to be there for you.
“Please help [Home Repairs] so they can continue to help others.”
