What happens when you combine golf and a good cause? Just ask Andy Goodwin. A grandfather, golfer and international ministry board member, Andy has been involved with Home Repairs Ministries’ Golf Classic for four years.
It all started when Andy was invited by a fellow Home Repairs supporter, Richard Lusk, to play in the Golf Classic. He enjoyed playing and learning more about Home Repairs — so much so that he decided to become a donor.
“My relationship with Richard and the positive view of what this ministry does led me to start giving to Home Repairs,” Andy shared. “Every year we play the scramble and it’s a good way to support the ministry.”
Although Andy’s favorite part of the Golf Classic is the game itself, he loves hearing about the ways that Home Repairs serves the community.

“As with any ministry, you’re always looking to further your base of donors and volunteers,” Andy said. “It can be difficult and competitive to secure funds, but I want others to know about Home Repairs and what they’re doing. I look forward to seeing the way Home Repairs broadens their reach in years to come.”

Andy is a founding partner of Optimum Investment Advisors, a portfolio management company. After 25 years in Chicago, Andy and his wife Sandy moved to Atlanta 12 years ago to be close to two of their children and four grandchildren, as well as to help care for Sandy’s mom.

Andy serves as a deacon at his home church, Mt. Pisgah UMC, and is a board member  of Biblica — an international ministry that distributes the New International Version Bible.

Chat with Andy for a few minutes and you’ll quickly discover he has a heart for both the gospel and Home Repairs’ mission of repairing homes and hearts.

“I have a very strong affinity for reaching people with God’s Word and Home Repairs Ministries is another way to do that,” Andy said. “Home Repairs has Christian sponsors and a Christian perspective, and I know that giving my time this way is another way to help show God’s love.”
