HRM eNewsletter - How It Came Together and Who We Served

Jim and I started calling and emailing some local Greenville non-profits and churches a couple months back to try and coordinate a serving opportunity, but because repair needs often can’t be planned in advance, these two projects really came together a couple weeks before the conference started.

Miracle Hill Ministries serves the changing and diverse needs of homeless, hungry and destitute people in upstate South Carolina through four adult shelters, three youth shelters and ten thrift stores. We talked with their Facilities Director and he mentioned that their shelter for women in transition needed windows replaced. We jumped on the opportunity.

The Generous Garden Project (www.generousgardens.org) fights hunger by growing, harvesting and coordinating the delivery of fresh grown produce to agencies in Greenville, SC, and partners with local organizations and communities to teach others how to grow fresh produce for themselves in a sustainable way. They recently had a greenhouse donated to them so that they could grow more food for hungry people, but were in need of some skilled people to disassemble it so that it could be moved. That gave us our second project.
