August 2014 Newsletter - Jerry's Story

Jerry is a friend and a volunteer for HRM. In a moment, his life was forever changed. It started when a storm damaged a tree in his yard. Jerry and his wife were concerned that the tree might fall on one of their grandchildren (his daughter and family live next door), so he decided to take it down. The tree fell in an unexpected direction and crushed his left hand and left leg. Both had to be amputated (the leg above the knee). He had a second section of the leg amputated due to infection.

Youth Project at Dream HouseAlong with the many changes he had to make, he was not able to work in his garden (one of his hobbies and joys). Now that he is feeling better, he wanted to get outside and plant a new garden. Jerry designed a fence (to keep neighboring dogs from “fertilizing”), and some of the volunteers from his church, Perimeter, built it. It was a labor of love. Jerry was serving others, and he is now being served, and Jesus’ love is demonstrated in both. 2 Corinthians 8:14 says, “...your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness.” (ESV) Please pray for Jerry as he adjusts to a leg prosthesis.
